Introducing Frit Digital Printing Glass

From Concept to Creation

Frit digital printing is a technique used to apply ceramic frit designs onto glass using digital printing technology. This method combines the precision of digital printing with the durability of ceramic frit, allowing for high-quality, customizable designs on glass surfaces.

Traditional Frit Printing

Traditionally, glass is printed on using Screen Printing technique. Screen printing, also known as silk screening, is a versatile printing technique used to apply designs onto various surfaces, by transferring ink through a mesh screen onto a substrate (such as fabric or glass) to create a design or image.

The technique uses a stencil to block certain areas of the screen, allowing ink to pass through only in the desired areas. Each color in a design requires a separate screen and pass through the press, which can increase time and costs. This is particularly challenging for designs with many colors or gradients. Screen printing may not be suitable for extremely fine details or very high-resolution images. The mesh screen can limit the sharpness and precision of fine lines or intricate designs.

Go Frit Digital

Frit digital printing is a cutting-edge technology that applies digital printing techniques to glass, functioning similarly to an inkjet printer. It operates with a digital art file to produce high-quality prints, offering enhanced flexibility for last-minute design changes. Unlike screen printing, which requires a new screen for each design variation, digital printing allows for quick and easy modifications to the art file, making it ideal for prototyping and accelerating time-to-market. However, it's worth noting that the inks used in digital glass printing are thinner compared to those in screen printing. This may necessitate multiple layers for achieving adequate opacity with light or pastel shades, potentially affecting the thickness and optical bonding process. Unlike screen printing, which prints one color at a time, digital printing can apply all colors simultaneously. The technology is also continuously evolving to support a broader range of inks.
